Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add an item?

Tap the scan button and point your camera at the product. Still Good reads the barcode to identify the item, then the printed expiry date to set when it runs out, in a quick two-step flow. A confirm screen always appears so you can check or correct anything before saving. No barcode, or no clear date? You can type the name and pick the date by hand.

The barcode was not recognised

Some products, especially loose produce, have no barcode, and some are not in the Open Food Facts database yet. Type the name once and Still Good remembers it, so the next time you scan that barcode it fills in automatically. You can review these in Saved Products in Settings.

The expiry date scanned incorrectly

Printed dates come in many formats and can be misread in poor light or on shiny or creased packaging. The confirm screen always shows the date Still Good read, and it updates to the newest confident reading while you hold the date in view, so you can check it before saving. Tap the date to correct it, or type it in by hand. Numeric dates such as 31/10/26 are the most reliable.

Why does Still Good ask for camera access?

The camera is used to scan barcodes and printed expiry dates when you add an item. The image is processed on your device and is never saved or sent anywhere. You can also add items by hand without the camera.

My reminders are not appearing

Make sure Still Good is allowed to notify you: Settings, then Notifications, then Still Good, then Allow Notifications. Also check the reminder lead time in the app’s settings so reminders arrive when you expect them.

I keep the same product in two places

Still Good tracks each location separately. If you have the same item in the fridge and the freezer, each keeps its own count and its own expiry date, so taking one from the fridge only changes the fridge.

What happens when I open something?

Mark an item as opened and Still Good re-estimates its expiry from the opened shelf life, and may raise the urgency for perishable items like dairy, meat, and fish.

How do I scan a receipt?

Open the Shopping tab and tap Scan a receipt. Photograph the receipt, or tap the Photos button to pick a photo or a screenshot of a receipt from a supermarket app. Still Good shows you every line it read before anything is added: lines under Ready are complete, lines under Needs a look want a name or a category, and a tap on any line lets you fix it. Tap Add to kitchen when you are happy.

The receipt scan got a line wrong

Tap the line to correct its name, category, place, quantity or price, or mark it as not food. Still Good remembers your correction for that printed line, so the same product is right next time. If a line is missing altogether, tap Add a line the scan missed. The header compares the lines with the printed total, so a missed or misread line shows up as a money difference.

I scanned the same receipt twice

Nothing is added twice. Still Good recognises a receipt it has already added and only offers the lines that are new, and corrects a price it read differently the first time.

Why did a scanned receipt put things straight into Expired?

Dates from a receipt are estimated from the day you bought the items. A receipt from three weeks ago produces items that are three weeks old, which is correct. Scan receipts the day you shop for the best dates.

How does the shopping list work?

Type what you need, or swipe right on an item in your kitchen and tap Buy again. Ticking a line off puts it in your kitchen with an estimated date. Products you used up recently appear under Suggested. Any line can carry a price and a store: tap its price capsule.

What counts as wasted on the impact page?

Anything you marked as Went to waste, plus anything that went past its date, whether you used it up late or it is still sitting in the kitchen. The date is the deadline on purpose. The lists behind the two tiles let you change your mind on any row, and Start over clears the history.

Where do the prices come from?

Only from you: receipts you scanned and prices you typed on the shopping list. Still Good never looks prices up online. If you start shopping elsewhere, Settings has Forget prices and receipts, which keeps your kitchen, places and list.

What does “soon” mean?

Within the reminder window you set in Settings, two days by default. Use soon holds everything inside that window plus anything expired; This week holds the rest of the next seven days; Later holds everything else.

Is there a widget?

Three. Expiring soon lists what is about to turn, Eat this first shows the one item to deal with now, and Kitchen at a glance shows how the whole kitchen is doing. Long-press your home screen, tap the plus button, search for Still Good, and pick one. Expiring soon also works on the Lock Screen.

How do I start fresh?

Settings has Your data. Forget prices and receipts removes every price, receipt and remembered receipt line and keeps the rest. Erase everything removes all of it, like a fresh install.

What languages does Still Good support?

Eight: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, and Greek. The app follows the language you choose in Settings, and the scanner reads printed month names in all of them.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything stays on your device. See our full Privacy Policy.
